  • General Design

All structural steel sections and welded plate members shall be designed in accordance with the latest edition of MBMA and the AISC, "Specifications for Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings."

All light gauge cold formed structural members and exterior covering shall be designed in accordance with the latest addition of AISC, "Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members."

Design load requirements shall be as determined by local building codes, and as per Manufacturers recommended design referencing the "Low Rise Systems Manual" of the Metal Building Manufactures Association, the U.B.C. and the IBC 2000 codes.

The basic design loads for HCI standard buildings include roof snow loads, wind loads, dead and seismic loads.
  • Structural Painting

All primary framing shall be given one shop coat of grey oxide primer. Secondary framing members are G-40 galvanized steel.

  • Structural Framing

All framing members shall be shop fabricated for field bolted assembly unless otherwise noted on erection drawings.

All building parts shall carry an identifying piece mark for easy field identification.

All welding shall be done in accordance with the American Welding Society "Structural Welding Code-Steel" and Canadian Welding Bureau Specifications.

  • Primary Members

Primary framing shall include tapered beam frames, tapered rigid frames, modular beam and columns, lean-to rafters and columns, canopy beams, intermediate columns, bearing end frames and end wall columns.

Steel used in the fabrication of built-up primary structural members shall have a minimum yield of 50 ksi. Hot rolled primary structural members shall have a minimum yield of 50 ksi. Cold rolled structural members shall have a minimum yield of 55 ksi.

Primary framing shall be shop fabricated and include all holes required for attachment of secondary members and bracing. Flanges and webs of built-up welded members shall be joined by a continuous automatic submerged arc-welding process. End wall columns and rafters shall be built-up "I" sections, structural mill shapes or cold rolled members.

  • Secondary Framing Members

    CEE'S - ZEE'S

Purlins are roll formed "Z" sections, 3-1/2", 4", 6", 8", 9", 10", 11", 12", or 14" deep, with either even or uneven width flanges, each flange of these "Zs" has a stiffening lip formed at 50 degrees to the flange.

Girts are roll formed "Z" or "C" sections 3-1/2", 4", 6", 8", 9", 10", 11", 12", or 14", deep. Each flange of these members has a stiffening lip formed at 50 degrees to the flange for "Zs" and 90 degrees to the flange on "Cs".

Secondary structural framing shall include the purlins, girts, eave struts, rake angles, clips and other secondary structural parts.

Steel used in the fabrication of cold formed structural members shall be 16, 14, 12, or 10 gauge with a minimum yield of 55,000 psi. Purlins, girts and eave struts shall be cold formed "C" or "Z" sections with flanges and stiffened edges.

  • Connections

All field connections shall be bolted. All primary bolted connections shall be furnished with high strength bolts conforming to A.S.T.M. A-325.

All secondary bolted connections shall be furnished with machine bolts conforming to A.S.T.M.-A307.

  • Roof and Wall Coverings

Standard-Roof and wall covering shall be 26 gauge steel ribbed panels. All painted steel panels shall receive a G-90 galvanized coating or galvalume coating before paint is applied. Panel material shall conform to yield strengths of 50 to 80 ksi. Unless otherwise specified the exposed surface of all galvanized panels, flashing and trim shall be color coated with a silicone modified polyester coating.

Colored panels shall be from standard HCI colors. Roof and wall panels of other materials and thickness are available upon request.

All panels will be continuous from base to eave, and frame ridge to eave, except where lengths become prohibitive for handling purposes.

  • Fasteners

Roof and Wall fasteners are self drilling carbon steel screws.

Panels shall be attached to secondary framing with # 12 self drilling hex head tek screws, with washers, color coated to match panels.

  • Sealant and Closures

Sealant for side lap, end laps and flashings shall be 3/16" wide x 1/8" thick grey pressure sensitive tape, which shall be a blend of butyl rubber and suitable inert fillers and pigments.

Closed cell closures matching the panel profile shall be installed as required to provide a weather tight building.

  • Warranties

Several finish warranties are available depending on the materials specified.

Stanley Steel also offers a standard 1 year manufactures materials and workmanship warranty on the structure. Copies are available on request.
